  • Special summertime moments

As the summer comes to an end and my son is getting ready to go back to school, I reflect on some of the really special moments that occured during our break together. Many of the moments that come to mind happened when the atmosphere was somewhat planned, but the moment was unexpected. By this I mean, many of my favorite memories from this summer occured when I made effort to plan for time together that was unplanned.

Some of my favorite memories occured when our family was in the car driving. Our family went on several weekend trips and one week-long trip this summer. We drove to each destination. One was a long trip, and we were in no hurry. We were on our way to meet the other 47 aunts, uncles, and cousins that were going to spend a week at the beach together. ( My husband is the oldest of 8 children). We knew that this ride was the calm before the storm- a good storm, though. We had so many fun moments during that ride that became our inside jokes for the next 8 days. These were my favorite moments - ones that you can easily forget. There are no pictures of them, and no real reason to record them, but they are the best.

When I reflect on these moments, I know these moments are the glue that sticks our family together. I want to keep these moments alive, so I am writing a story about our summer, with pictures included. I want to include each family member's perspective. To do this, I am asking each member of the family to write a part of it and I will compile the pieces, so that these memories will last. Hopefully, this will be a new tradition that we will be able to do each year. And when we are in the mood, we will break it out and say remember when.....
