Questions Outside the Scope of Ask A Parent Coach

Ask A Parent Coach is intended to help you with the tough but typical challenges parents face in raising children. It’s not a crisis hotline, nor can we offer legal advice.

Some issues parents face require immediate attention. If you need help with problems like abuse; neglect; domestic violence; mental health issues; the risk of harm to self or others; or legal advice regarding divorce, please contact one of the following resources:

    • To report child abuse or neglect, contact your local Children’s Services department.

    • For mental health treatment, contact your insurance company, your family physician or local mental health board.

    • If there is imminent danger of harm to self or others, call 911 or go to your hospital emergency room. Suicidal or homicidal thoughts, or seeing or hearing things that are not there are all psychiatric emergencies.

The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is a 24-hour, toll-free suicide prevention service available to anyone in suicidal crisis. If you need help, please dial 1-800-273-TALK (8255).

    • If you are a victim of domestic violence, we encourage you to seek help through a local shelter.
