    diaper changing

my 20 month old hates to have his diaper changed.  It has gotten so bad that he turns his body to the side or lays on his stomach screaming.  This is beyond the 12mo old crying.  I have tried to force it but that doesn't work.  We do this for a couple minutes...literally.  I tried singing to him(which used to work) giving him something to play with or a book to read or a tv show to watch and he tantrums the entire time.  I even tried changing it standing up, but that doesn't work either.  My brother said that boys just like to be free.  That's fine but when he starts peeing all over the carpets it's not good.

Any suggestions on how I can solve this problem?
