  • Portion sizes appropriate for age.  My Pyramid Plan allows you to input any family member’s age and weight and find out the amount of each food group needed daily. It also provides additional links on dietary guidelines.
  • Nutrition & Fitness has lots of ideas about fitness and flexibility, based on your child’s age. You can also find information specific to middleschoolers regarding nutritional requirements and physical activities.

  • Rescuing the Emotional Lives of Our Overweight Children: What Our Kids Go Through-And How We Can Help, Sylvia Rimm Ph.D., Eric Rimm , SC.D.

    Dr. Rimm is a professor at Case Western Reserve School of Medicine and directs her own family achievement center in Cleveland, Ohio. She has appeared on numerous television shows including Oprah, The Today Show and 20/20. Her son and co-author, Eric, is an epidemiologist specializing in nutrition. Based on Dr. Rimm’s national survey and clinical experience, she outlines the ramifications of childhood obesity. She also offers advice to help parents work with the emotional and social aspects of childhood obesity.

  • A Parent’s Guide to Childhood Obesity: A Road Map to Health, Sandra Hassink, MD, FAAP, Editor in Chief.

    Dr. Hassink is director of the pediatric weight management clinic at Alfred A. DuPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, DE. She also serves on the American Academy of Pediatrics Obesity Task Force. Her positive approach focuses around the fact that a parent and child can succeed to help a child lose weight. This book gives information on nutritional guidelines, increasing physical activity, and dealing with challenges such as bingeing and snacking.

    This book provides information based on a child’s age regarding nutrition and activity. Especially helpful are charts on portion sizes and activity levels.
