Making Time for Me

Introduction

You can’t pick up a paper or turn on the TV without being bombarded with the advertising message: Mom, take care of yourself! Indulge a little! Wellness has started to feel like an additional responsibility.

Even with all the hype, many moms find taking care of themselves pretty hard to justify or accomplish. Being selfless has become identified with mothering, and multi-tasking a symbol of self-worth. Deep down, many women believe they can best serve their families by putting their own needs aside and working nonstop to meet everyone else’s.

It’s no accident that women continue to feel this, despite today’s emphasis on wellness -- our culture encourages it. Along with the theme of self-care appear images of supermoms calmly managing household, children, and career while cooking everybody’s favorites for dinner – all without breaking a sweat.

Sound contradictory? You’re right!
