Self Esteem

Introduction

Self-esteem reflects a person’s appraisal of his own worth.

You communicate with your child through actions and responses that build her beliefs about herself. How you do this can either form a foundation for self-esteem – or contribute to the lack of it.

Being respected builds children’s self-esteem. Think of someone you respect -- a friend, family member, co-worker, teacher, or coach. What qualities does that person have? What about this person commands respect? Does this person have high self-esteem?
